Pickerel Lake Dam

Pickerel Lake Dam 2016-2017

With the Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council allocating $2.4 million dollars in funds to the Watershed’s Habitat Restoration Program, the District Board of Managers initiated projects that protect, enhance, and restore habitat for fish, waterfowl and wildlife.

Pickerel Lake Dam is owned by Freeborn County. This dam has failing concrete, exposed rebar, and is in dire need of repair. The Shell Rock River Watershed District will replace the structure with a new variable crest dam. Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2016. Once completed, Freeborn County will still have ownership of the dam.
