City of Twin Lakes Leaf Vacuum 2008

The falling autumn leaves can be a beautiful symbol of the changing seasons. Beautiful, that is, until you have to clear them out of your yard or garden.

Leaves that fall can make their way into storm sewers, clogging them up, or staying there to decompose. As the leaves decompose, they release nutrients into the Distric'ts chain of lakes. Excess nutrients provide a medium that algae can bloom. Because of this, the Shell Rock River Watershed District partnered with the City of Twin Lakes to purchase a leaf collection truck designed to collect leaves off of the Twin Lakes resident’s curbs.
